Youth for Christ has an amazingly rich and storied history. Some people have argued that YFC has been one of the great movements of recent church history. Since 1944, YFC has had a distinctive history of youth evangelism. Starting with Saturday night youth rallies in the late 1940s and early 1950s, YFC's ministry methodology turned to Bible Clubs in the late 50s and 60s. It was in this period of ministry that the concept of teen to teen evangelism was birthed. Since that time several ministry models have been created. Billy Graham became YFC's first full-time staff member. YFC/USA is a chartered program of Youth for Christ International. Over 1,500 paid staff members and 15,000 volunteers serve in over 100 countries around the world.
Spokane YFC was officially incorporated in 1955. In 2003, recognizing the void of intentional outreach to youth living in Spokane’s low-income neighborhoods, Spokane YFC adopted City Life as its core ministry and began reaching the youth of the West Central neighborhood. City Life targets youth living in urban communities. Spokane YFC developed aspecific model that includes four key components: a strategically located neighborhood youth center, ministry houses in the neighborhood where adults live in community and serve youth through YFC, programs to serve at-risk youth, and building mentoring relationships with underprivileged and at-risk youth. This model has since expanded into the Hillyard neighborhood. While the history of Spokane YFC has been rich and storied, the future of Spokane YFC has never looked brighter.
